Off we go!

As my sister Kathryn said on the phone as we boarded the train in Albury, “your departures are always legendary”. This one was truly monumental - too complicated to go into here.

Anyway, it was lovely on the train: we had seats on the west side and so we were drenched with lovely sunshine and another bonus: the train was half-full so we had 6 seats to ourselves! We enjoyed some carrot cake that Evita (David’s girlfriend) had made - yum! The train arrived at Broadmeadows (on time!) and we arrived (early) so now enjoying a well-earned drink while we wait for check-in, watching the sun going down.

Enjoyed immensely Free Solo - the film of the solo climb of El Capitan undertaken by Alex Honnold. I have really been wanting to see this and it did not disappoint. Another film The Mule with Clint Eastwood helped while away the time. Finally, some snatches of sleep.

I am starting to enjoy the book The Hare with the Amber Eyes. I am enjoying the author’s way with words, such as his research of the newspapers on social life in Paris in the 1870s:

There are the same labyrinthine lists of encounters and guests, the minutiae of who wore what, who is to be seen, each run of names a calibration of snubs and fine judgements”.

Transit through Dubai, then to Warsaw.
